QAR Strategies: “In the Book” Questioning

As we work with our students on In the Book Questions, we need to ensure that they are able to identify the type of question, and recall/locate the information.  Once students are comfortable with these routines, we can delve deeper into this category.  There are actually two types of In the Book questions: Right There & Think and SearchRight There questions use the exact wording from the text, with the answer being located in one place (Who does Spoon visit on Sundays?).  Think and Search questions require students to navigate the text and put together different parts to find the answer.  This could be within a specific paragraph or across several pages (Who can name each of Spoon’s friends?).
